We keep close track of the evaluations we ask students to write up at the end of each JDEtips class. I personally read every evaluation, and often discuss student comments with our JDE services team. Any instructor who doesn’t receive a passing score is coached on how to improve, or simply not utilized again. Fortunately, that’s a pretty rare occurrence. The one answer that I pay the most attention to is the one answering the question: “What is the overall value of the class to you?” … [Read More...]

Joel Schipper has been in pre-sales and sales with JDE/Oracle for 19 years. I recently sat down with Joel to get his views on the future of JDE and related topics. Joel writes on topics of interest to JDE clients at www.YourSystemNotGuiltyAsCharged.wordpress.com. Joel is a Master Principal Sales Consultant and Solution Architect at Oracle, a senior position held by a very small percentage of Oracle’s sales team. Andy: Joel, how about if we start out with you introducing yourself? Joel: … [Read More...]

Sometimes you have to do the right thing, even if it might not be profitable. Two weeks ago, I decided that we would guarantee to run all of our public JDEtips University classes. That means if a class has even just one or two registrants, the class will be held. We, like every other training vendor, saw a precipitous drop in course registrations in 2009 due to the double whammy of cuts in both training and travel budgets. It’s been a gradual climb back, and we’re ready to meet our … [Read More...]

JDEtips Webucation One year ago, in November 2011, we started sharing our knowledge of JD Edwards via webcast events. We covered a range of topics—EDI, Advanced Pricing, Manufacturing, Inventory Reconciliation, and Financial Integrities were some of the JDE topics covered. We also focused on project management with webcasts on best Upgrade practices, and International rollouts. A third focus area was JDE training itself, with sessions on Knowledge Transfer, and Cushing Anderson’s tour-de-force … [Read More...]

JDEtips: Are we a consulting group that does training, or are we a training group that does consulting? I checked our financials earlier this week, and was a bit surprised to see that our consulting revenue is actually larger than our public and onsite training revenue. Historically, we've always done quite a bit of JDE consulting, but in the last few years, we've focused more and more on JDE training, which is our sweet spot. However, we've seen an upsurge in consulting work that could … [Read More...]

Question: What do the NY Times and JDEtips Have in Common? Answer: Intellectual property! And we both charge for it. About four months ago, the NY Times, whose website I read virtually every day, for news and feature stories, announced that free access was to be no more. With 30 million unique monthly visitors, www.NYTimes.com is the 27th most popular website in the US, and the most popular newspaper site. The NYtimes digital subscription policy was in development for the past year, and … [Read More...]

Want to get certified in JDE, but don't have time to study 2,000 pages of manuals? Help has arrived! Backstory: Many of you know that a few months ago, I spent about 20 hours studying for, and passing the Oracle/JDE Distribution Essentials exam. I think I might just have figured out why I did this—beyond the fact that I like studying for and passing exams. I haven't done any JDE consulting or training myself for over five years, so it was a challenge to review all the modules and prepare … [Read More...]

Yesterday, I was reading a set of evaluations from one of our JDE onsite classes (I read every evaluation from every class we teach), and I had a hard time believing what I was reading: "Perhaps some hands on practice exercises would have been helpful to get everyone in the class involved." "He could have done a little bit more to keep the class engaged, such as including practice exercises." At an overall score of 3.8 on a 5 point scale, the evaluations were lower than what we typically … [Read More...]

That's right folks, we've decided to unleash our experts, and make available our JDE knowledge in the form of webucation events. If you already know us, then you know that these will be high quality, educational events, and not just a forum for vendor chest beating. What is webucation, you ask? Well, it's not just a webcast, and it's not just education. It's a combination of both, delivered with a little JDEtips humor to keep you entertained. I'm actually working on my jokes right now … [Read More...]
